With regards to qualifying residents associations

#0, by assistant_editor, 15 November 2010 10:45 AM

This was a question emailed to me earlier by Ms C, which we thought would be of interest to our members.

"Re a qualifying residents associations rights to be consulted by the park owner in relation to his proposed changes to site rules could you please clarify if it is qualifying residents association members who can vote on the above or is it All residents of the park. any other information relevant to this issue would be welcome."

The Government have now produced a Park Home Fact Sheet soley explaining qualifying resident's associations, which you can read here ,  or you can download it from the Government website .

To more fu lly answer your question, ALL residents have a right to be consulted by the park owner regardless of whether they belong to the association or not.

With regard to residents associations, I feel that it is a pity that a lot of park home residents seem not to wish to participate, for many reasons. Some don' t want to upset the Park owner , wish to profile themselves as trouble causers, be seen as trouble makers. Most of us live in park homes because we like the chance to live in a mostly rural community with people of a similar age and similar aspirations. I feel that to form residents associations in park home communities is our way not only to have our say but to be recognised and treated like respected valuable members of society. I know that most of us are in our autumnal years but that should not stop us from stating our views. Also don't forget residents assoc iation meetings is a good way to meet your neighbours and enjoy a cup of tea even if you don't agree.. Enjoy Life.

Resident associations! Can Be Good but also please remember they can be Very Bad too!
My advice on setting up a residents association would be first to consider if you have a real problem with your park owner first that can`t be settled amicably! As there is a saying if its not broken why fix it!

Always remember by setting up a residents association you may be creating a problem that does not exist! If there is a real problem with your site then of course consider setting one up!

But please be aware that your residents association may end up causing you more problems then it fixs! As i am aware of associations that were originally set up with good intentions but have ended up making life very difficult for the residents that dont agree with the commitee!

I do not want to put anyone off setting one up but think about it first as you might not just have problems with your park owner life can become very difficult on a park for a resident if the association disapproves of another residents interests
