Hi Meerkat
Sounds like a good idea to me, but it would be very time consuming and costly to set up.
Unlike the holiday industry where consumers are encouraged to leave a review (mostly good, sometimes bad), most other industries suffer similar problems where people are quick to complain and very slow to praise. This certainly includes us in the office. We are very quick to complain about bad service etc. and to praise is always something we can do tomorrow! Not nice to admit to, but fact.
It would be physically impossible to contact park home residents except through the park owner, as there is no database holding the names of residents, or even the numbers and names of roads on the larger parks and so the option of doing a survey is well nigh impossible, unless someone were to pay for it and that type of survey would cost well into five figures to implement. There are around 1,900 privately owned parks in the UK.
With regards to the protection you have, as you say, in 'bricks and mortar' when you purchase a property, you still have no control who your next door neighbour sells to, as I know at my cost!
You have to come back to the good old personal research of talking to the park home owners on the park yourself and come to your own decision.
There are without doubt several park owners who give our industry a bad name and as only bad news sells newspapers, these are the ones you are likely to hear about. The majority of park owners in this country do a very good job and spend a lot of time having to protect their own reputation because of the minority!
Regards
Ed.
