Hi There

#0, by sharonc, 13 June 2011 03:02 PM

Can anyone help? I am seriously considerting purchasing a Park Home. I literally have my pen poised to write a cheque as deposit. Can anyone answer the following questions:

A. Are they warm enough in the winter?
B. Are they cool enough in the Summer - not that we get too much of this.

I have selected a sight, a home and it would be a complete relocation for me. I am excited but don't want to be disappointed.

Many thanks

Sharon

Mine is a Pathfinder 44x12 and in the winter they are cold if you let them be i put 2 gas bottles a fortnight during the winter they now cost £115 last winter when thy were £100 i put £600 worth on some people i know sit with coats on and even go to bed to save money or not have enough.but this causes damp and mildew which is a big problem with park homes, some one on our site asked why the wall covering was coming off the walls,i know he had only put two bottles of gas all winter....his home is only 4 years old

I am not being cold for no one,,i had enough of that when i was a kid in Brum in the back to back houses with ice on the inside of windows

We are just coming up to our first winter, so dont really know how it compares to our bricks & mortar home we left. As long as our total energy bill for the year is no more then the brick home we will be reasonably happy. Hopefully it will be less.

This summer we were no hotter then brick house, ceiling fans would be a good idea, but we were ok with a pedestal fan blowing.

Park homes are built to a different standard to holiday caravans, insulation being one of the main differences.
I suspect newer park homes, and the more expensive ones, may have better thermal insulation then older ones, or lower priced newer ones.

If you buying new, I would contact the manufacturer and ask what the insulation properties are.

Hi

We moved from brick home into a Parkhome which is about 20 years old 5years ago best thing we did. Being a builder I looked at the construction of it , They where made by Terapin of Milton Keynes, They have timber constructed walls with plaster boards on the inside, then insulation and GPR sheets on the outside, the roof is Marley tiles
They can be heated either by storage heaters or if like us piped gas from British gas
They are warm  and not that expencive to heat, Mobile Homes have thinner walls and the roof is fake looking tiles, but if insulated well can be as warm as any house

Hello  mossy. The  site  I  was  talking  about  the  residents  pay  council  tax, and  yes  its  classed  as  a  holiday  site, this  is  why  I  feel  the  local  council  leave  well  alone..plus  the  re-houseing  issue..........like  lots  of  areas of  life..rules  or  so called  rules  get  broken  or  overlooked  so  that  jobsworths  can  sit  on  their  backsides, but  LEARN  from  it  when  anything  goes  wrong...I  felt..and  still  feel  parkhome  living  is  a  minefield, of  cause  there  are  exceptions  to  everything  and  I  envy  the  people  who  are  happy  with  site  and  home.  evergreen
