Solar Panels

#0, by dave, 14 July 2011 05:15 PM

Has anyone out there looked into taking advantage of the Government's recent incentive to install solar panels ?

I've done a little research and had a couple of surveys/quotes carried out. The stumbling block seems to be getting information on who the electricity supplier is which is proving difficult as the park I live on controls the electricity supply.

Hi Dave

The park home owner can request sight of the electricity bill from the park owner. However, don't forget that they too can shop around for electricity and change as and when.

Not very up on solar panels, perhaps you can tell us why it is necessary to get the electricity supplier details - unless of course, you plan to sell some back to the grid!

That's exactly what the scheme is all about. To make it financially viable, all ( every single ) units of electricity generated by the solar panels sees a return from the electricity company of 34p per unit, index linked for the next 24 years. It's called the FIT - Feed In Tarrif. That's why I need to deal directly with the electricity company responsible for the supply to my park in order that they pay me.

I know this sounds too good to be true but just google FIT for the info.

Given the amount of park home sites in UK, I can't believe that I'm the only one looking into this so hopefully I'll get some feedback soon from other owners

that's about right for a 2Kw (ish) system. You have to look at the installation as a long term investment. Don't forget you get a guaranteed 24 year income index linked.

Anyway it's not my intention to explain the system and it's benefits - you only have to google it to find out for yourself. My interest is to find out if anyone else has looked into this and most importantly the reaction from the site manager /owner .

Thanks

Dave
