Hi Eileen
I am going to arm you with some ammunition to go back to your friend, so that you can tell them they don't know what they are talking about!!!!!!
If you were to buy a holiday caravan, you get a License Agreement which gives you the length of time that you can keep your caravan on the site, rather like a lease it has a definitive time. In many cases with the static type of caravan, fifteen years is often a preferred length of time.
However, you are talking of living in a park home and I hope on a residential park; this is a completely different kettle of fish. Firstly, you have complete security of tenure with a Written Statement under the Mobile Homes Act 1983 and in the unlikely event of anything going wrong whilst you live in the home, you have the full backing of the law behind you. There is no definitive time. You are entitled to stay on your plot for the life of the home. Homes built today, with the correct care and maintenance, will last in excess of sixty years and beyond.
Why don't you visit our Downloads page on Park Home Living, where you can download copies of the Government's Park Home Factsheets and also a copy of the Written Statement. Have a good read of those and if there is something still not clear, come back and ask us again.
We are here to help with all the correct information. Please remember though, if you do try to live on a holiday park with a ten month or eleven month license, you will definitely then be in a high risk of losing your money. Take a look at our 'Misuse of Holiday Homes' article as well and that will explain all.
Regards
Ed.
