INTERIOR PAINTING

#0, by amelia, 11 November 2011 07:27 AM

Morning Everyone,
I would appreciate some advice please, quite recently i purchased a park home which is over 20 years old, good condition but requires a dab of paint.
the ceilings look very discoloured and doubtful that they have never seen a lick of paint,
my question is this, can i paint the ceiling with emulsion or do i require a specialised paint for ceilings and walls in park homes, and also can i wallpaper in park homes.
sorry if the questions come across as a little dumb, but living in a park home is a new venture for me.
looking forward to your advice

Internally you should be able to emulsion, gloss and wallpaper I would think.

Clean paintwork with sugar soap to get rid of "grease", if already wallpaper hanging sugar soap will also help to soften it prior to scrapping off.

Hello  Amelia...nice  to  see  you ....Ive  used  emulsion  with  no  problems  in  my  home..but  I  tend  to  keep  away  from  pattern  wallpapers.....useing  blown  vinal  instead.....we  seem  to  change  pattern  papers  more, and  I  would  imagine  it  would  be  a  fiddly  job  with  the  walls  being  none  standered  constuction,  Im  sorry  but  I  dont  know  about  doors  and  architrave's  and  such  in older  homes.....now  its  all  plastic " a  quick  wipe  " great  lol .........sorry  I  cant  be  of  more  help  evergreen

Hi Amelia

We had the same problem we purchased a 1985 unit and the ceiling where all stained plus the wall covering was badly marked.

We removed the old original top cover of the paper and left the backing paper on the plywood.

We then filled and re secured several lose sections of interior ply this is also a good time to replace sockets etc.

Then we sized all the walls then re decorated with a heavy duty scrub paper.

We then placed a false ceiling on top of old one which we strapped then fitted a nice new pvc ceiling with chrome stripes throughout what a difference.

Dont know if Ed lets us post photos to see before an after but must admit its like a new unit also the PVC ceiling will never require painting just a clean now and again.

We have used these ceilings before in refurbishing houses and have used the same procedure with Park Homes our neighbours are so impressed we have orders to do there's.

Hope this helps

John

Hi John

Go ahead and post the images, but please everyone, when replacing sockets you may only do so by employing a NICEIC registered electrician.

I have moved this post to Refurbishment and Technical, as it was under the Terms and Conditions the forum operates under.
