Hello  roblovesenya...the  calor  is  very  expensive, I  can  only  roughly  guess  maybe  12-50  a  week, also  once  the  really  cold  weather  sets  in  I  think  you  may  need  the  temp  at  21  degrees  especially  if  your  sitting  in  there, which  could  alter  the  amount.........if  it  was  me  Id  probably  save  on  the  generous  side,  then  anything  left  is  a  bonus.  As I  say  its  difficult  for  me  to  answer,  I  had  my  calor  heating  took  out  and  replaced  with  the  German  gel  electric  rads   which  fingers  crossed  up  to  yet  have  quarterd  my  previous  gas  bills.
Hope  you  have  settled  in  now  and  like  your  home ....regards  evergreen...sorry  I  cant  be  more  help.

Hi,

for LPG heating

Currently i pay £59 per month to cover the LPG all year.
Last year i did meter readings every month and with the cold weather around christmas last year (-15 outside) i was using £125 for that month.
Average colder months Nov and January was abounf £90 per month

This is with the heating set at  20 degrees from 2pm till 7pm & weekend daytime, and 15 degrees at all other times (i dont risk turning it off in the winter)

With the recent increases in price you can add about 15% to that.

Evergreen as for electric heating, with the efficiency and price of LPG, it almost exactly matches the cost of electric heating at the moment, so a like for like winter as last year your costs would be pretty much the same (it has been very vary mild so far this year)

WIth oil heating current costs, it would be about 15-20% cheaper to run oil rather than electric heating (but the servicing, install costs are much higher)

Hello  sky  I  digress  with  your  comment  about  LPG  matching  electric...I  have  ran  both  and  got  bills  to  prove  it...my  gell  heaters  ARE  cheaper  than  LPG, and  as  for  oil  my  sister  inlaw  uses  oil  and  my  bills  are  cheaper  than  hers.....I  take  it  you  have  used  these  heaters ?....sky  Im  evergreen  with  a  small  e...like  you  are  a  little  s............evergreen

Hi,

Electric heaters are 100% efficient, so each kw of heat costs aprox 12p (if your on a good tarrif)

Oil boilers should be at least 70-80% effieicent, 1 litre of oil costs aprox 60p, you get 10kw of heat from 1 litre of oil so 1 kw from oil costs 6p (add in the efficiency difference then its just under 7p per kw)

Again LPG boiler should be 70-80% efficient, 1 litre of lpg costs aprox 55p, you get 7kw of heat from each litre,  so 1 kw from lpg costs 8.6p (again add in the effieciency and you get about 10p per kw)

Only if you have a really old boiler will electricity be cheaper, either that or you are not heating you home to the same level (only heating half your rooms etc...)

Oil is currently the chepest method of heating you home off grid, only a wood burner of a heat pump system would be cheaper

Hi folks,

Out of interest, I wondered if you may enjoy reading about Paul Wheaton's approach to heating the person, not the space around them - a technique which offered him a significant reduction in his energy costs?
The link is here:
http://www.richsoil.com/electric-heat.jsp

And if you're deeply into measurement, here's another link on the maths and physics of personal heating:
http://www.lowtechmagazine.com/2011/02/body-insulation-thermal-underwear.html

Warm regards from a bright, sunny and bitterly cold and frosty morning in Oxford,
Chris.

Re Paul Wheatons approach......

when I am at home during the day by myself I sometimes "live in a bubble" - perhaps not too the extent as shown in the video.
However, I wouldnt get away with it when the wife comes home. Taken me sometime to get her to put a cardigan on when she says shes cold!
This winter is our first in our double unit. What I am trying this first winter is use the central heating in the morning and evening with a room stat in the hall set at 17degree, but each of the radiators have an individual stat. So the wet central heating is being used as background heating.
The lounge/dining room we have a electric fire with thermostat. I have got that set at 21degree. The wet central heating is still in that area, 2 rads, but one is set quiet low, and the other a bit higher but as the room warms from additional electric fire source, they turn off via their thermostats.
If during the day it gets too cool, and it does, I turn the electric fire on in the living room. This warms very quickly as it has a fan.
We are still both working most days s it works fine for us during the week. Come weekend, we make it more comfortable for us and us the living room fire more, but not at a hgher temperature.

Hi Evergreen
I think thats the website I referred to earlier.
I looked at the video and the facts they print. As I read it, their radiators seem as economic as lpg wet central heating (at least for now think they add)
