Can I rent a mobile home

#0, by miasgran, 01 January 2012 11:08 PM

Hello, Happy New year.

I've just joined this forum, and have a question that hopefully someone will be able to answer for me.
Me and my hubby are hoping to move to the South Coast, around the Chichester area, and I've just started making enquiries about renting a mobile home as unfortunately we can't afford to buy one. Does anyone know of a retirement park that does rentals in that area?.  I'd really appreciate some help.
Thanks

Happy New Year to you and welcome to the forum.

You are our first post in 2012!!

We have a total of 127 residential parks that rent in the UK listed on our website, but we have only found one in West Sussex, which is located in Bognor Regis. This is essentially a holiday lodge park, but their site license does incolude two residential plots which they rent out. Their phone number is 01243 552081 if you would like to see if they have anything available.

If you are prepared to move to a different area, follow this link which will take you to our full list of parks that rent. You can then refine your search to a different location by using the lists on the left hand side of the page.

Good luck.

Ed.

Hello,
Thank you very much for your reply. I'll look into the one in Bognor, and I've already been looking at the list on your website.  I've got a little bit of a shortlist, but I have one been question and hope you can answer.  How much would it cost roughly per year to use LPG gas as some of the parks that have availability only use this. I have very bad arthritis so need plenty of heat, so was wondering if it would work out more expensive than mains gas.
Thank  you

Hiya

There has already been quite a lot of discussion on the price of heating by LPG on this forum.

If you type into the search window at the top of this page 'LPG gas' and then click on the search button, all the threads on LPG will come up for you and that will hopefully give you something to work on.

cost of heating by LPG depends on a number of factors, effeciency of the boiler, insulation etc
but i was reading something recently that suggested that lpg cost about the same as electricity,as opposed to mains gas which can be 50% cheaper for heating,as an example in the summer we got 17 weeks heating and hot water from a 47kg lpg bottle, now we are getting about 18-20 days,so i`m looking at 8-10 cylinders per year at a current price of £47 each, this is for a 2 bedroom 11x44` home

10 cylinders @ £47 each = £470.  That sounds like a good deal to me - we have LPG piped from a main tank and our gas bills for 2010 totalled over £900.  We are hoping to cut this when we have our home reclad next month.

and of course how much gas you use, mains or bottled, depends on
a) how long you have C/heating on for
b) what temperature you have it set at (even 1 degree less can save a lot)
c) do you have a bath or a shower, and of course the frequency

lots of variables.
We have a double unit, and this is our first winter so everything is by experimentation.
Just wearing something warm helps a lot, try getting the wife to stick a jumper on though is hard work!

Thank you all very much for your replies.  I think we'll probably end up going to a park that has mains gas.

The only problem we have now is finding one.!!   If anyone knows of any within a 2hr driving distance from London I'd really appreciate it.  We'll be on housing benefit so it would have to be a park that accepts that, and also we'd like to rent a fairly newish home to live in  for the rest of our days, and not have to move if the site owner wants the home off the park because it is too old. (Does that really happen?)

Thanks again. x

Our park is about 2 hours from London and is one of many in the area - however I do not know of any parks that rent homes out -  park owners make most of their money by selling homes not renting them.

There are many horror stories regarding the tactics of unscrupulous park owners to be found - however we should try to see things from all sides.  Our park was originally a camping site and started to be developed by the then owners in the mid-sixties.  As a consequence there are a considerable number of units on the park that were constructed during the seventies.  Some home owners either do not care or cannot afford to maintain their homes which are steadily rotting away round them.  if you are unfortunate to live close to one of these you will find your own home devalued and potential purchasers put off by what they see.  Our park owners have purchased old homes relatively cheaply and demolished them but have always done it in a respectable and business-lake manner - no bully-boy tactics here.

Hi Miasgran

We do know of  park that rents nice homes within a 2 hour drive of London, but not sure whether it is in your price range. If you would like to Private Message me with the amount of rent you can pay, I will let you know if it is suitable.
